Obituary for Laurence Farasyn

Laurence Farasyn
Laurence Edward Farasyn was born on February 8, 1928, at his parent’s farm home seven miles north of Marshall, to Mary (Coudron) and Charles Joseph Farasyn. Larry was the first child. The family lived at this location for 11 years until purchasing the farm two miles north of Marshall.

Larry was drafted into the military on October 23, 1950. He was processed at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri, performed basic training at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO and spent the remainder of his enlistment performing advanced mountain combat training in Anchorage, AK. On February 17, 1954, he was united in marriage to Josie Laleman at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. To this union were born son Richard and daughter Gail. The family farmed six miles south of Marshall until moving to the home place in 1960 to farm with his father and brother, Harold. Larry continued farming until health reasons caused him to retire and move to Marshall in 1990. Larry then started delivering new trucks to Schwan's Depots and continued this job for 12.5 years. He was able to visit 47 states before retiring. Driving, flying and seeing the United States was something he really loved. He later delivered rental cars to clients and various airports throughout Minnesota. Larry enjoyed water skiing, spending time with friends, roller skating, football and time on the computer. Larry was passionate about farming and enjoyed all aspects of his operation. He enjoyed going to Colorado and driving through the mountains. He was also very passionate about his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Larry died on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife Josie, of Marshall, son Rick (and Janet) of Loveland, CO, daughter Gail of Marshall, grandchildren Shay (and Laura), and Chas (and Afton), great-granddaughter Elle, sister Elraine (and Tom) Brennan, brother Virgil (and Delores) Farasyn, brother Harold Farasyn, sister Jeanette Hicks (and James Fitzgerald), nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Don.
