Marvin Edward Davis was born on April 6, 1935, in Marshall, to George and Lena (Istas) Davis.  He grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School.  After two years at St. John’s University, Marv enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  After his honorable discharge, he returned to Marshall.  On August 13, 1960, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Madden.  To this union was born daughter Genell.  Marv worked as a Supervisor for Distribution for the Minneapolis Star & Tribune for 7 years.  For 18 years he worked as a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.  After his retirement, he worked with special needs children as a Para-Professional in the Marshall School District.  Marv’s special enjoyments included camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling and senior woodworking class.  Every Christmas, he made candy and cookies to give to friends and neighbors.  He was a caring and dedicated husband, father and son.  He was also a dedicated son and visited his mother daily.

Marv died on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota.  He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of Marshall, daughter Genell (and Dan) Hausauer of Alexandria, VA, mother Lena Davis of Marshall, brothers Dennis (and Yvonne) of Huron, SD, George (and Cathy) of Paynesville, Doug (and Lynn) of Foley, MN, Merlin (and Mary) of Minneapolis and sister Pat (and Richard) Fischer of Highlands Ranch, CO, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father George H. Bonnie, Genell and Dan,

I was planning to attend the funeral today but alas, we live in Minnesota. I'm there with you in spirit. I hope today has laughter to accompany the tears. I'll be in DC in 2 weeks and hopefully we can get together then.

Bonnie and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you, and our deepest sympathy. Marv was always there to help out with the ushering at church and just helped Fran at Xmas eve mass. He was a great and loving, honorable and giving man. He will be missed. Sorry I cannot make the funeral but our prayers and cares are with you. Fran and Syl DeBaere

It feels like I've lost a family member. Bonnie was my Kindergarten teacher, Genell was a top notch classmate, and Marv was my boss when I peddled the Minneapolis Star as a teenager. Aah... life in a "small" town. The entire Davis family is in my prayers. God's peace to all of you.
