          Lawrence John Sumerfelt was born on April 8, 1922, in Kittson County, Minnesota to Alexander and Domecila (Kielb) Sumerfelt.  He moved with his family to the Taunton area when he was a baby.  On November 14, 1945, he was united in marriage to Barbara Bernardy at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota.  The couple raised their family and lived on the family farm near Taunton for 69 years.  Lawrence enjoyed playing cards and playing harmonica, but he was most passionate about spending time with his family. Lawrence died on Tuesday, January 12 at his residence in rural Taunton.

            He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of rural Taunton, children; Patricia (and Roland) Thielges of Minneota, Rosann (and Michael) Schmitt of Marshall, Thomas (and Marlys) Sumerfelt of Cottonwood, Joan (and Glenn) Korman of Akeley, John (and Chris) Sumerfelt of Taunton, Timothy (and Janet) Sumerfelt of Minneota, 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, siblings; Edmund (and Vivian) Sumerfelt of Minneota, Virginia (and Russ) Vikesland of Frazee, Delores (and Floyd) French; of Grand Rapids, Audrey Timm of Minneota, sister-in-law Sophie Sumerfelt of Marshall, many nieces nephews, relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Mary Jane, daughter Susan Johnson, grandson Brian Thielges, great-grandaughter Brooklyn Sumerfelt Kruse and siblings; Benny Sumerfelt, Lorraine Sumerfelt, Ann Coens and Agnes Sumerfelt.

            Memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall.

I send my sincere condolences to the family of Lawrence Summerfelt. I grew up in Taunton. I was Darrell Breyfogle's daughter Pam. I went to the same church as him and his family. He was a wonderful man and very friendly he will be deeply missed by alot of people. Pam
