Richard “Dick” Farrell was born August 18, 1921, in Slayton, to John and Minnie (Bolosover) Farrell.  He grew up in Balaton and graduated from Balaton High School.  On October 27, 1943, he was united in marriage to Donna Marcotte at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Tracy.  Dick worked for his father-in-law, U.L. Marcotte, on the family farm near Balaton for a few years.  He then worked as a mechanic for the Lutz Garage in Marshall before beginning his career with the MN Department of Transportation where he was the longtime parts manager in the Marshall office.  After his retirement from the DOT, Dick enjoyed delivering route trucks for the Schwan Food Company and traveling to see his family.  He was a loving father,  grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was also an independent man and enjoyed taking care of his house, yard and vehicles.

Dick died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall.

He is survived by his children Diane (and Dick) Noyes of Windom, Renee Farrell of  Louisville, KY, Patrick (and Rosann) Farrell of Atlanta, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister Marian Faundeen of Blue Earth, brother Duane (and Darlene) Farrell of Balaton and sister-in-law Leona Farrell of St. Paul.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna and son Michael.

Lois M. Nelson, MN Past State CDA Regent: ...
My prayers and sympathies to all of Dick & Donna's family. There were numerous times when we would be in Marshall for CDA activity when Donna was State Regent. Of course, our last state CDA convention was hosted by the local CDA members in Marshall where, again, the hospitality of the entire community made us feel right at home. Dick was always the quiet, supportive arm. We enjoyed his sense of humor when we were together. May you have many wonderful memories to share within your surviving generations.
