Traditional Services
In Southwestern Minnesota, a traditional funeral service typically has three parts: an evening visitation with or without a prayer srvice, a funeral ceremony, and an interment (usually eath burial or cremation). The purpose of a funeral service is to honor the life that was lived and to assist the mourners with their journey through grief.
The funeral director assists grieving families in many ways including: Responding to the location of death and providing transportation of the deceased to the funeral home. Providing professional care with the decedent including embalming, dressing, and cosmetic work Assisting families’ coordination with church personnel, fraternal orgainizations, cemetery/crematory personnel and others involved with the service Securing and filing legal documents including death certificates, veteran documentation, social security filing, etc. Writing and submitting obituary to newspapers, radio, internet and other media Setting up the funeral location and supervision during ceremony Coordination of final interment.
